Structural Blade Design and Testing
The overall goal of the Structural Blade Design and Testing Group is through innovative research developing the optimal wind turbine blade design that will bring benefit for the society and environment.
One of the main aims of the Group is establishing design and test criteria for wind turbine blades.
We try to:
- combine experimental tests with Finite Element Analysis leading to innovative solutions
- be a unit, where seniour researchers work had in hand with the students contributing to their education with own experience
- maintain close collaboration with manufacturers as well as other science institutes
In the Structural Blade Design and testing Group, the experimental work is combined with numerical analysis to fully address the critical failure mechanisms and thus get the understanding of the complex structural behaviour of wind turbine blades. The aim is to design longer blades that will be respectively lighter and more robust.
The Structural Design Group uses a pyramid concept. The four faces of the pyramid visualize the relationship between the most important research fields cosidered. It shows multi-scale approach for Experimental Tests and Finite Element Analysis combined with other areas.

- Experimental tests
- Finite Element Method
- Structural Health Monitoring
- Measurements
