Aeroelastic Design Programme

The key issues for this programme are the research, development and application of aero-servo-elastic programs, computational fluid dynamics (CFD) code and software design tools for aerofoils, blades, and wind turbines. New aerofoils are designed by means of aerodynamic engineering models and the numerical wind tunnel, and subsequently verified by wind tunnel measurements.

We also perform aeroelastic stability analyses and experiments in order to investigate the mode shapes, natural frequencies as well as the damping properties of the various parts of a wind turbine.

As for the endurance of both present-day wind turbines and new concepts, we investigate and predict the aero-elastic response, including control properties, as well as extreme and fatigue loads experienced by on- and offshore wind turbines during their entire lifetime.
