Blade Design

A blade and wind turbine design tool, HAWTOPT, has been developed at Risø. This tool uses common rotor aerodynamic models, but also more advanced models such as CFD models in combination with numerical optimisation. The tool can as well be coupled to aeroelastic models so that the design can be based on aeroelastic response

Apart from a design based on aerodynamic and aeroelastic issues we also have the possibility of designing the blade for minimum surface curvatures. The output from such a design is the blade planform in terms of chord, twist and airfoil thicknesses as function of radius.

blade design

We have designed several blades in cooperation with clients, which perform aerodynamically optimal and fulfill the structural requirements.
