Nutritional Residues from bioenergy

Utilization of nutritional residues from bioenergy conversion by the agroecosystem - management and nutrient conservation

After biomass have been converted to different bioenergy products the leftover “wastes” can be used for other purposes. The residue contains lignin and micro-and macro element which are valuable components to secure and/or improve soil fertility for crop production in the longer term as well as limiting environmental problems linked to agricultural practices (e.g. leaching of both nutrients and pesticides).

Risø are well equipped with facilities for growth chamber-, greenhouse-, lysimeter- and field experiments as well as equipment and experiences for chemical analysis and characteristics. With such facilities Risø are able to carry out research on new types of residues from larger and/or smaller bioenergy enterprises and other industries dealing with organic raw materials.
